Anna looked like a team on a mission in the first inning of their game Monday, totally dominating their neighbor to the north on their way to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. The Lady Coyotes did not look back as they took the game 7-3.
Freshman Courtney Gilliland pitched the complete game for Anna, striking out six and only giving up three hits. Courtney Price and Brittany Hearnsberger led the team with two hits and two runs scored a piece. Tess Montgomery, Lauren Williams, Renee Erwin and Gilliland all scored one run.
"This week we have improved tremendously," Coach Haley Ross said. " We have tried a new combination of girls in a few different positions and it is working out really well for us. Our bats have come to life now. We were in a slump as a team and this week we have woken them up."
On Tuesday, the Lady Coyotes took on Paris. Williams got the win, striking out nine and Renee Erwin got the save to lead the way to a 12-2 Anna victory. Erwin belted two out of the park, Williams added a home run as well and Gilliand, Samantha Dhane, Katie Callison, Brittany Hearnsberger and Cortney Price all scored in the game.
"All the girls are hitting and playing really well overall," Ross said. The Lady Coyotes hit the road this week as they travel to Commerce on Friday and North Lamar on Monday. They will host Bonham on Monday.
