ANNA, Texas – “We had 47 wrecks so far this year, compared to 35 last year at this time,” said Anna Police Sgt. Jeff Caponera. “The majority of them were on Highway 75.”

“People will be seeing increased patrols. We're going to be a lot more visible. We need to do something to reduce wrecks,” Caponera added.

In other police news, the site manager for the new Anna High School on May 1 reported a theft of two bundles of Rebor, valued at $6,000, from the construction site. There are no suspects at this time, according to Caponera.

On May 2 at 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Athabasca Falls, in The Falls subdivision, where a party turned into a fight.

Two brothers apparently got into a fight over family issues with one brother biting the other brother's thumb. According to witnesses, the suspect then punched out the back window and damaged the hood of a car in the driveway.

According to police records, assault charges are not being pursued, as the bitten brother will not press charges.

However, the investigation continues for the vehicle damage, which according to Caponera, could result in a felony charge.

On May 3, officers responded to a burglary call in the 400 block of Niagara Falls in The Falls subdivision. The burglar entered an open garage and stole a number of personal items from the family car parked in the garage.

“Don't leave your garage doors open,” was the comment from Caponera.

Also on May 2, Anna Police responded to two drug related incidents.
