Understanding people is hard sometimes, yet it isn’t as difficult as you may think or others may be telling you.

Let me show you in the next series of weekly PowerLife columns.

Understanding people is easier when you understand some basic principles of human behavior. Those basic principles are what I will share with you in the weeks ahead. “Warning, Warning, Will Robinson” (Quick, what baby boomer TV series did that famous line come from?); some of these principles are currently being denied by elements of our culture, so fasten your seatbelts. I’m sure by the end of this series of columns I will have the opportunities to raise everyone’s eyebrows one way or another. It’s going to be fun.

Everybody is talking about hope, from the politician to the stockbroker.

It even seems that the concept of hope had the audacity to help elect a president of the United States in the last election.

I have never seen so many people come forth with advice or explanations on hope. All of this causes me to scratch my head and think about what you and I are really hearing as we are being bombarded by the media daily with talk of hope.

Last Sunday many of you went to Church. Speaking for myself and fellow pastors, let me say that we were very glad to see you.

Some of you were there because you are always there. Some of you were there because of a family tradition of attending church at Christmas and Easter every year. Yet, some of you were there because you are beginning a spiritual journey, and this Easter was a part of it. You are the ones I want to speak to today as I write this column. I think about you in terms of 3 groups, which I call “New Starts”, “Fresh Starts”, and “ReStarts.”

You “new starts” are those who are seeking to find meaning and purpose in life…trying to find the reality of God in your life. It was so good to see you in our fellowship, and know that you have a special place in the heart of the Lord Jesus. He said in the Gospels that he came to “seek and find” to one not in the fold with Him. You are special to God. If fact, you are really what it’s all about, lthough to our shame, sometimes we in the church don’t act like it.

In the faith history of orthodox Christianity, this Sunday begins the key times of our faith, historically.

I like to call them the “Faith-Points” of true Christianity. In observance of this special time of year, some have a more formalized and strict procedure for remembering and reflecting on their significance. Others are very unstructured and open in their remembrances.

But, all orthodox Christians see this as a special time that needs to be remembered and reflected on each year. The “passion” or “holy” week revolves around Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Morning.

“The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself …” Wow, what a timely statement.

It was timely for our nation in WWII and it is again timely for our nation today. br>
In WWII, the world started changing, and today our world is changing. The fact for you and I to face squarely today is that change creates fear.
